Instabilities during Liquid Migration into Superheated Hydrothermal Systems

چکیده
Hydrothermal systems typically consist of hot permeable rock which contains either liquid or liquid and saturated steam within the voids. These systems vent fluids at the surface through hot springs, fumaroles, mud pools, steaming ground and geysers. They are simultaneously recharged as meteoric water percolates through the surrounding rock or through the active injection of water at various geothermal reservoirs. In a number of geothermal reservoirs from which significant amounts of hot fluid have been extracted and passed through turbines, superheated regions of vapour have developed. As liquid migrates through a superheated region of a hydrothermal system, some of the liquid vaporizes at a migrating liquid-vapour interface. Using simple physical arguments, and analogue laboratory experiments we show that, under the influence of gravity, the liquidvapour interface may become unstable and break up into fingers.

Effect of colloidal Particles associated with the liquid bridge in sticking during drying in Superheated Steam
It is very important in the design of a drying system is to evaluate sticking behaviour of the materials goes under drying. A new approach to the sticking issue is applied in this study by carrying out a sticking test for the liquid associated with the materials under study. It was found that the liquid bridge is responsible of the initial sticking of the materials to the contact surface and th...
متن کاملHeavy metal contamination from geothermal sources.
Liquid-dominated hydrothermal reservoirs, which contain saline fluids at high temperatures and pressures, have a significant potential for contamination of the environment by heavy metals. The design of the power conversion cycle in a liquid-dominated geothermal plant is a key factor in determining the impact of the installation. Reinjection of the fluid into the reservoir minimizes heavy metal...

Direct numerical simulations of liquid-solid and liquid-vapor phase change are conducted under microgravity conditions. The time-dependent governing equations are solved using a two-dimensional nitedi erence/front-tracking method. Large interface deformations, topology change, latent heat, surface tension and unequal material properties between the phases are included in the simulations. Result...
متن کاملBoiling induced macroscopic erosion of plasma facing components in fusion devices
During plasma instabilities in tokamak devices, metallic plasma facing components (PFC) can undergo surface melting and vaporization. Macroscopic losses of melt layers developed during these instabilities are of a serious concern to the lifetime of PFC, the damage of nearby components, and potential core plasma contamination. Due to the presence of impurities and dissolved gas, boiling occurs i...
متن کاملHydrothermal Surface-wave Instability and the Kuramoto-sivashinsky Equation
We consider a system formed by an infinite viscous liquid layer with a constant horizontal temperature gradient, and a basic nonlinear bulk velocity profile. In the limit of long-wavelength and large nondimensional surface tension, we show that hydrothermal surface-wave instabilities may give rise to disturbances governed by the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation. A possible connection to hot-wire e...
